China's Golden Week - the implications for logistics

China celebrates its National Day on October 1st, which is also the start of Golden Week. The holidays will continue until October 8, 2025. China's Golden Week is known to cause bottlenecks and transportation delays in international supply chains.

The Golden Week celebration shuts down a large part of China's economy: factories stop production, offices close their doors, and the operations of ports and airports slow down.

During the holidays, the Chinese go on vacation, so when the country quiets down during the Golden Week, most airlines and shipping companies adjust their schedules and reduce/cancel their departures.

Chinese customs authorities do not accept customs clearance during public holidays, so Golden Week is known to cause global delays in Chinese cargo imports and exports on both sides of the holiday week.
